The Story

In the winter of 1597, twenty-six condemned Christians are marched through the snow toward a hilltop in Nagasaki. Among them is a twelve-year-old boy.

Bound together by faith, they walk toward death in silence. Yet through the boy’s eyes, their final journey is transformed from an act of suffering into a vision of courage, sacrifice and transcendence.

Told through the ancient visual language of paper, ink and light, KAMI is the story of what they carried — and what carried them.

The Twenty-Six

KAMI draws upon the final journey of the Twenty-Six Martyrs of Japan, whose path ended in Nagasaki in 1597.

Rather than regard history from a distance, the film enters it through the eyes of a child — where fear, wonder, memory and faith become inseparable.

An Ancient Language.

Every figure, landscape and gesture was conceived through the language of folded paper, handmade theatre and cinematic light.

The material is not decoration. Paper becomes body, memory and spirit — fragile enough to tear, yet capable of carrying something that survives.

KAMI was designed, directed and edited as a film — combining visual development, reference-led generation, animation, compositing, sound and deliberate human judgement.
